Certificate 2 Construction Pathways -13 Indigenous participants commenced & completed training

The Certificate commenced with 13 strong participants in February 2012 and ran for three days a week for 10 weeks. All 13 completed the training with a further three now placed into apprenticeships.

This program is a short term program that gave participants theoretical and practical experience with construction methods, materials, tools and equipment;

National Training Package competencies; qualification in Cert II Construction Pathways; training in communication, team work, using technology, problem solving and employment seeking skills and experience specific to the Construction Industry.

PRACTICAL PROJECT

A practical project was developed to build a recreational structure for students at CIT including stairs, Hardboard floor, paining, glass railing and roofing. This concept is a hand on approach to training that fills the gap between novice and job ready.

The student project is an innovative concept and will provide the students a sense of pride in achieving this building from the ground up, with a roof structure and will give participants the additional ride of a job well done.

Habitat acknowledge the Department of Employment, Education & workplace Relations for funding provision and the support and commmittment by the ACT Building & Construction Training Fund Authority to their access and equity funding to bring this concept to fruition has been critical to the project’s success.
